Confidentiality During our therapy meetings, an assessment of your psychological health will be completed, and notes will be taken during sessions. These will include personal and sensitive details about your life. The assessment and notes are used solely for the delivery of a therapy service to you. Should you wish that I not keep records about you, you must give me a written request for your file, and I will only note that you attended therapy in the records. All information shared during therapy is confidential and all records are kept securely. I will only disclose your information with your written consent. There are three instances where confidentiality cannot be guaranteed by law: (1) When a minor or vulnerable person is at risk. (2) When there is a treat of suicide or homicide. (3) When serious crime is involved. In each case, I am obliged by a professional duty of care to inform the relevant authorities who will take the appropriate action but I will always try and tell you first. In keeping with standards of professional ethics, I also consult with colleagues in peer intervision sessions and with a clinical supervisor. I do not disclose any information that could lead to anyone identifying a client. However, please be aware that email correspondence is not completely confidential. All emails are retained in the logs of your or my internet service provider. While under normal circumstances, no one looks at these logs, they are, in theory, available to be read by the system administrator of the internet service provider. In addition to that, therapeutic discussions and my clinical notes are not privileged, they are subject to the Dutch Courts which have powers of obtaining of my clinical notes. Consultation Fees Each individual therapy session lasts approximately 50 – 60 minutes. Please note that my fee is 100€ for an individual session, to be paid via bank transfer within 14 days of receiving the invoice. I offer a sliding scale payments for students and people in needs. Communication with 3rd parties (i.e. a GP, your company doctor, etc.) regarding your therapy will be invoiced at the standard fee. Psychotherapy are covered (partially) by most complementary health insurance companies, however it is your responsibility to confirm with your insurance company that my fees are covered by your Insurance Plan. Any overdue bills will be charged a 1.5% per month interest. If you eventually refuse to pay your debt, I reserve the right to give your name and the amount due to a collection agency. The full fee is payable if you do not cancel your session on time. Absences and Office Closures The practice is closed on weekends and all Dutch public holidays. I am also away from the office several times per year for vacations or to attend professional meetings. I will tell you well in advance of any anticipated lengthy absences. During absences that are longer than 2 weeks, I can arrange a cover-up from a certified colleague in case of need. Termination of services You will normally be the one who decides when therapy will end. First, if we are contracted for a specific short-term work, we will finish therapy at the end of that contract. Second, if I am not in my judgment able to help you because of the kind of problem you have, or if my training and skills are in my judgment not appropriate to supporting you, I will inform you of this fact and refer you to another therapist who can may meet your needs. Third, if you in any way do violence to, threaten, verbally or physically, or harass me, the office, any of my professional colleagues, or my family, I reserve the right to terminate you unilaterally and immediately from treatment. Professional Ethics: As a fully accredited member of the ABvC, RBCZ and the American Counseling Association, I adhere to their ethical framework and guidelines to ensure that you receive a professional and quality service. I do not have social or sexual relationships with clients or former clients because that would not only be unethical and illegal, it would be an abuse of the power I have as a therapist. Complaints My clients may turn to me with concerns or complaints about me or my practice. If you have any feedback about the service you receive from me, or you are not satisfied with your experience, please contact me. I will take such criticism seriously, and with care and respect.
